Beth David’s History

Beth David, known as Miami’s Pioneer Synagogue, is Miami’s oldest congregation. It was founded in l912 and has a rich and wonderful history. It’s current location on Southwest Third Avenue dates back to l949 when the neighborhood was predominantly Jewish. The structure is unlike that of modern buildings. The architecture features a dome with six supporting columns. The bimah is made of Brazilian mahogany. A ballroom with magnificent chandeliers adjoins the Sanctuary. Hundreds of dedicated members from around Miami attend services, events and the acclaimed Gordon Schools of Beth David.

The Beck Museum of Beth David features many artifacts from all over Europe and other countries. A Persian Torah from the 1600s, a travel-size Torah from Bavaria, a Hungarian prayer schedule with moveable clock faces, and pop-up Rosh Hashanah cards from pre-war England and Germany are just a few of the many historical Jewish objects found in this museum.
